My new Curvy Barbie, Charlie!
Ever since Mattel announced that they were going to be making Curvy Barbie dolls, I knew I had to have one.
Now, while I do not ‘collect’ Barbies anymore, I found that with the new body types my interest was picking back up again.
I wanted to wait to post about the differences between Curvy and Original Barbie until I had received some custom made clothes for my Curvy Charlie, but I have not yet received them and really wanted to share this review with you all!
As you can see, Curvy Barbie has fuller thighs and hips than your traditional Barbie doll. Here is a side by side comparison:
Viewing from the side, you can see the Curvy Charlie has a much fuller bottom than Original Barbie, a.k.a. Kitty, and she also has a nice, more natural looking ‘tummy’. From the front you can see that her hips are wider and her thighs are thicker than Original Kitty’s.
Here is the back view! Curvy Charlie has such a cute, round bottom, as compared to Original’s.
Because of the difference in size, most Original Barbie clothes will not fit Curvy. Tops/shirts will fit, but bottoms such as skirts and pants are the issue here. I’ve found a couple Original Barbie skirts that slip over Charlie’s wider hips, but not many. That’s why I had to order custom clothes from Etsy.
What do you think of Curvy Barbie? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below!
I had a very special experience recently, and I have been super busy and quite exhausted so haven’t gotten around to writing about it until now.
I was asked to work as a ‘doll stylist’ on a commercial shoot for American Girl and Wellie Wishers dolls. I had to stay on set for almost 14 hours each day, making sure that the dolls that were featured in the commercial looked beautiful.
I had to ensure that their hair and clothes were looking wonderful for the camera. It was a very cool experience! The commercials will probably not be on the air until 2017. I will let you know if I get any more information on where to watch the commercials when they are released!
After speaking with some other people on set, I found out I could work on Barbie, Monster High, Cabbage Patch, and other commercials that require doll styling. I really think that would be a great job! Have you ever worked on a commercial set? What did you enjoy most about it?

Last but not least, these terrific doll sized bracelets!
What is your favorite new piece from the mix and match separates collection? I’d love to hear about it!
Until next time!
We have some fresh and fun new arrivals for Spring at the American Girl Boutique in Vancouver.
The most anticipated arrival has been the Icecream Cart ($130 Canadian) of course, as well as the gorgeous and lacey Spring Breeze Dress ($42 Canadian).
The next fun find is the Rainbow Sprinkles outfit ($39 Canadian). This outfit makes me think of the late 80’s trends of cropped pants and polka dots. It’s super cute!
The American Girl Vancouver Boutique has also received the stylish Striped Sunglasses ($14 Canadian) for dolls as well as the totally cool new floral boots ($22 Canadian). While you’re shopping, don’t forget to take a look at all of the great books that American Girl has released. My personal favorite is “A Smart Girl’s Guide to Knowing What To Say”. This book gives children tons of great advice on finding the right thing to say in a multitude of different situations. Even adults can find some sound advice in this one!
Come check out all the new stuff today!
AG Spring PWP
Currently there are a ton of awesome items on sale, AND a new “Purchase with Purchase” (otherwise known as “PWP” ) dress available at American Girl Vancouver!
The “Spring Dress, Headband and Bracelet Set” is only $16 when you spend $50 before taxes in the store. Usually this outfit would retail for about $36. Great deal and so adorable! The light blue, easter green, soft pink and purple colors are perfect for the upcoming season of Spring. (The shoes in the picture are not included with the outfit.)
As I mentioned in the post title, there are also a few good deals on the “Dress Like Your Doll” clothes. The best deal in my opinion is the girl sized “Joyful Jewels” headband, for only $2!
Looks cute on little kids AND big kids!
All Grace Thomas girl size clothes are on sale, as well as her Sightseeing Accessories for dolls. As for Truly Me, the Happy Birthday Accessories are now only $12.50 and the Flower Purse for dolls is only $5!
I hope to see you all grabbing some of these super deals soon at the AG Van store!
As I am sure most of you know by now, the new Girl of The Year for 2016 is lovely Lea Clark!
Lea visits Brazil and is inspired to help save injured and endangered animals. She is also a photographer, and loves photographing wildlife.
My favorite part about the new collection is that American Girl has partnered with the World Wildlife Foundation. This means proceeds from every purchase of Lea’s sloth, sea turtle or Margay cat will go to supporting the WWF.
Oh, and of course I got the sloth. 😉
What is your favorite thing from Lea’s collection? Let me know in the comments below!
If you are planning your first or even your hundredth trip to an American Girl store within Canada, here are some handy tips to help you ensure a positive and fun experience!
Top 5 Tips:
#5 … Bring your doll! Even if you don’t have an AG doll, the salon does hair and spa services for other types of 18 inch dolls. Even if you don’t plan on getting a service done, the staff love meeting your dolls and seeing how special they are to you.
#4 … Double check Canadian vs. American pricing – unfortunately most pricing even in the “Canadian” version of the catalogue still shows U.S. prices.
#3 … Pack your camera. Make some memories of your trip by taking photos in the store. Capturing the look of excitement on your child’s face when they first enter, or find their perfect doll, is something you will want to remember.
#2 … If you are bringing in a group of girls for a birthday, remember the Canadian stores do not host ‘official’ birthday parties due to space constraints, however we love having girls come with their friends to celebrate. Please call ahead and let staff know your plans so they can prepare to have enough staff on hand to give you a fun and more personalized experience.
And finally, the #1 tip I have for you is … plan ahead. If you are looking to buy a specific item, please call the store before making your trip to ensure stock is available. Unfortunately, the Canadian stores don’t stock every single thing that the American stores do, so if you want to be sure that you will be able to purchase that very special item you want, make a quick phone call and ask an AG employee.
I’d love to hear how your visit to a Canadian AG store went. Let me know in the comments section below!
