Curvy Barbie vs Original Barbie

My new Curvy Barbie, Charlie!

Ever since Mattel announced that they were going to be making Curvy Barbie dolls, I knew I had to have one.

Now, while I do not ‘collect’ Barbies anymore, I found that with the new body types my interest was picking back up again.

I wanted to wait to post about the differences between Curvy and Original Barbie until I had received some custom made clothes for my Curvy Charlie, but I have not yet received them and really wanted to share this review with you all!

As you can see, Curvy Barbie has fuller thighs and hips than your traditional Barbie doll. Here is a side by side comparison:

Viewing from the side, you can see the Curvy Charlie has a much fuller bottom than Original Barbie, a.k.a. Kitty, and she also has a nice, more natural looking ‘tummy’. From the front you can see that her hips are wider and her thighs are thicker than Original Kitty’s.

Here is the back view! Curvy Charlie has such a cute, round bottom, as compared to Original’s.

Because of the difference in size, most Original Barbie clothes will not fit Curvy. Tops/shirts will fit, but bottoms such as skirts and pants are the issue here. I’ve found a couple Original Barbie skirts that slip over Charlie’s wider hips, but not many. That’s why I had to order custom clothes from Etsy.

What do you think of Curvy Barbie? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below!

Dolls and Apologies

I am so sorry to all my fellow doll enthusiasts that I have not posted in quite a long time. I have been dealing with my own personal life stuff, and blogging hasn’t been high on the priority list. Dolls, of course, still are high up there and they are still involved in my everyday life.

Unfortunately, I do have some sad news: I have left American Girl at Indigo. I could no longer handle the almost 2 hour commute every day. I am going to be working at the Chapters Langley location starting late December. No, there is no American Girl department there, but they have Wellie Wishers in the Kid’s department so I will still have some dolly friends hanging around. LoL.

Before my departure from AG in Vancouver I had the great chance to train new Doll Stylists for the salon. They will be there ready to style your doll’s hair this holiday season and beyond!

In other news, I decided I wanted a curvy barbie for Christmas. I specifically want Doll 48, Fashionistas Daisy Pop. She really makes me think of the 90’s:

I love that Barbie has finally gotten with the times and created dolls with different body types. What do you think?

Working on an American Girl Commercial Shoot!

2016-08-31-14-08-13

I had a very special experience recently, and I have been super busy and quite exhausted so haven’t gotten around to writing about it until now.

I was asked to work as a ‘doll stylist’ on a commercial shoot for American Girl and Wellie Wishers dolls. I had to stay on set for almost 14 hours each day, making sure that the dolls that were featured in the commercial looked beautiful.

2016-08-31-11-51-24

I had to ensure that their hair and clothes were looking wonderful for the camera. It was a very cool experience! The commercials will probably not be on the air until 2017. I will let you know if I get any more information on where to watch the commercials when they are released!

After speaking with some other people on set, I found out I could work on Barbie, Monster High, Cabbage Patch, and other commercials that require doll styling. I really think that would be a great job! Have you ever worked on a commercial set? What did you enjoy most about it?

Melody, Willa and New Tiny Cuties!

Melody arrived in Indigo American Girl Stores very recently and she has been well received! People love her message of freedom and equality.

In other news, I gave in and ended up bringing home Willa of the Wellie Wishers not too long ago. I’ve been using AG clothes cinched at the waist with elastic bands to fit her, since it isn’t in my budget to buy WW clothes right now!

And finally…why must my place of work keep baiting me with super cute mini dolls and accessories? Look at these new LORI dolls! All the clothes will fit Lottie dolls as well. I want one! What do you think of these little cuties?

Wellie Wishers, Melody is Coming…and more!

So, as we all know, new historical character Melody Ellison is coming to American Girl stores in late August. We received some new Melody books at the AG Van store recently which got me hyped up!

Also, in big, fun doll news, Wellie Wishers are now available in Canada at most Indigo stores!

I would love to add one of these little cuties to my collection! What do you think? Who is your favorite?

Fresh Finds at American Girl Vancouver!

We have some fresh and fun new arrivals for Spring at the American Girl Boutique in Vancouver.

2016-04-01 13.05.10
The most anticipated arrival has been the Icecream Cart ($130 Canadian) of course, as well as the gorgeous and lacey Spring Breeze Dress ($42 Canadian).

2016-04-01 13.04.58 The next fun find is the Rainbow Sprinkles outfit ($39 Canadian). This outfit makes me think of the late 80’s trends of cropped pants and polka dots. It’s super cute!

The American Girl Vancouver Boutique has also received the stylish Striped Sunglasses ($14 Canadian) for dolls as well as the totally cool new floral boots ($22 Canadian). While you’re shopping, don’t forget to take a look at all of the great books that American Girl has released. My personal favorite is “A Smart Girl’s Guide to Knowing What To Say”. 2016-03-10 13.44.39 This book gives children tons of great advice on finding the right thing to say in a multitude of different situations. Even adults can find some sound advice in this one!

Come check out all the new stuff today!
